Bend Sofa by Patricia Urquiola | Design Milk

The Bend Sofa is a new seating system designed by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia.

Shown at this year’s NeoCon, the contrast stitching makes the sofa appear to jump right out of a computer design program and into your living room. With its irregular shape, it creates a soft line that almost makes it seem in motion. There are various modules including an ottoman, left and right sofas, and corner elements so that you can create the right configuration for your home or office.

diesel + moroso: chubby chic

designed by moroso for diesel, the ‘chubby chic’ furniture series juxtaposes ample forms and soft fabrics

with the clean lines of leather and linen belting. the works were on exhibition at diesel’s ‘relics from the next future’

home collection event and international furniture show during milan design week 2011.

including an armchair, standing ‘poufs’ usable as stools or ottomans, and an oversized floor seat,

‘chubby chic’ composes part of diesel’s ‘successful living’ line, designed to unite fashion, design, and functionality.

each piece layers at least two colours of fabrics, in shades of gray, blue, khaki, or distressed patterns;

and while the works on exhibition featured brown leather belts, moroso has also designed editions with coloured fabric cinctures.

‘a lot of washed overdyed linen is needed to cover all this bountifulness’,

reads the description of the collection, ‘but now it is time to tighten the belts!’

konstantin grcic: cape for established & sons

munich-based designer konstantin grcic draws on the natural way that fabric drapes over a piece of furniture,

as means of protection or preservation, for his ‘cape’ chair created for british design and manufacturing brand

established & sons. growing from the challenge to develop a casual covered seat that still has a luxurious feel,

the result is an upholstered seating unit (available in one and two seat options) that features an overlay cover –

literally a cape for your sofa or chair. multiple types of fabric and color options are available to suit the seasons:

heavier fabric for fall and winter, and lighter ones for spring and summer.
